Shree Manache Shlok

These exquisitely lyrical quartets in Marathi, composed by the legendary saint Shree Ramdas Swami (1608-1681 CE ) are famous all over Maharashtra. Simple yet profound, their message touches the very core of man’s spiritual aspiration.  The fervour of Shree Samartha’s message is undiluted in any language, but its beauty is admittedly best heard or sung in the original Marathi.  


They are exhortations to the mind, to introspect, discriminate and understand the purpose of human existence and achieve the goal of Realization in the easiest manner- by single-minded devotion to the Lord. Recognizing that the mind is the only instrument to attain Godhood, yet the biggest obstacle in our path, Shree Ramdas Swami addresses his words to the mind.


The mind; the generator of thoughts, the storehouse of doubt and suspicion, the trickster who propels us to chase the senses, it is our worst enemy. However, says Shree Ramdas Swami, it can be transformed into a great ally if it is aligned with our ultimate spiritual purpose.  It is then the enormously powerful instrument with which  we can understand and experience the deepest, most esoteric secret of the Self with the grace of the Lord.
      
He befriends the mind, logically points out flawed thinking, cajoles, beseeches and sometimes scolds it to challenge its own understanding. These shlokas have their origin in the soul of a great spiritual Master, an avatar of Lord Hanuman himself, the ultimate devotee of Lord Rama.  Every word resonates with the ring of his own Self-Realization.  He had experienced the Supreme Self himself. With the deep compassion that is so much a part of saints and spiritual preceptors,  he tries to make us aware of our ignorance so that we too may know the Truth.


If we pray with faith, sincerely seek the Truth and try to integrate his words into our inner world, he promises that we will reach our goal without the shadow of a doubt. For the Lord walks a thousand steps towards us for every step we take towards Him.  In his infinite mercy, He Himself graces us and lifts us out of the darkness of ignorance into the glorious light of the Truth.  


The story of how these 204 verses came to be composed  itself inspires devotion. Samartha Ramdas Swami travelled for twelve years on foot through the length and breadth of the country.  Lord Rama Himself had appeared to him in a vision years before and commanded him  to undertake the mammoth task of resuscitating a spiritually dead nation.  Swami Samartha decided that the only way to get a clear idea of what was happening was to see for himself what was going on in society not just in his state but all over the country. He set out on foot, travelling all over India, talking to all kinds of people, young, old, rich and poor, of all denominations and faiths. He saw for himself  the  havoc wreaked in society by the atrocities of fanatic rulers of the day  and by the blind faith and superstition which had eclipsed real spirituality in Hindu society.


He observed the demoralization and dehumanization of society and the abject misery of people who had lost both identity and sense of purpose. Blessed with a rare blend of powerful intelligence and deep compassion, Samartha Ramdas pondered the problem and arrived at a decision.


His mission was to bring back devotion and spiritual strength in the hearts of people who were convinced that God had deserted them. In fact they were so deluded that they did not believe in God any more.  It was a seemingly intractable task-to instill hope in dejected hearts which was strong enough to lift the spirits of people out of apathy and ignorance; firm enough to take their love for God beyond fear of reprisal and death.


He chose the little hamlet of Chafal. It was the ideal hideaway, hemmed in by rocky hills, isolated from the tyranny  of the Muslim governors by its geography and  anonymity. With the Lord’s grace he proposed to the village elders that a temple be built there.  Repercussions from the fanatic Muslim rulers of the time were harsh; consequently, the villagers showed little enthusiasm but gave him permission to build it on his own.   Undeterred, Samarth Ramdas began laying bricks alone in the only space he was given --the village  cemetery.


In time people got over their fear; drawn to his  single-minded devotion they began to help in the building work. Brick by brick  the temple took shape. Finally the time came for the deity to be installed. No thought had been given to the deity which was to preside in the temple and no idol maker had been commissioned either. The villagers were curious as to how an idol would be made at a time when idolatry was deemed to be a sin punishable by death by the Mughals.


In answer to the hesitant queries of the local people, Samarth Ramdas dived into the depths of the nearby lake and came up with a large stone statue of Lord Rama.  It was so heavy that it was impossible for a single person to lift, let alone find the physical  strength to bear it up from the river bed in both hands while swimming up from the bottom of the lake. With this superhuman feat the villagers found new respect for the saint with whom the grace of the Lord could so clearly be seen to abide.


He understood that adult attitudes had fossilized into fearfulness and that hope lay in the younger generation. He started giving discourses in the courtyard of the temple and training young boys to become physically strong and spiritually and mentally healthy.  His words were so magnetic that they drew crowds  from neighbouring villages for miles around. He implored God for direction and was told in a divine vision told that a partial incarnation of Lord Shiva would be a worthy disciple. Together, guru and disciple would revive the spiritual faith of the people and free the land from tyranny. Soon enough he accepted the young Shivaji as his disciple. Hope and patriotism once again blossomed in the hearts of the people.  Shivaji, with a dedicated band of young peasants waged a guerilla war that brought the Mughal empire to its knees. Fort after fort was built on conquered territory and for the next twenty-two years, the Deccan remained unconquered by the Mughals inspite of all their might and resources.


In Chafal in just a few years, the festival of Ram Navami became a huge event. The management of logistics as well as the organization of food and water for the crowds had to be procured through donations from local people.  It was planned well in advance by Shree Samartha’s  disciples.  Large amounts of food grains and necessities were usually sent by Shivaji Maharaj who was the king and a devoted disciple.  


Once it so happened that for a long time there was no sign of supplies from Shivaji Maharaj. There was barely a month left for the start of the festival.  Worried disciples asked Shree Samartha to write a letter to Shivaji Maharaj to hasten the delivery of supplies.  In reply he told them quietly that the Lord was capable of providing everything and no devotee needed to be asked for anything.


Another week went by and the disciples began to panic  somewhat at the thought of thousands of people beginning to pour into the village for the approaching festival.  Swami Samartha sat in his cave in meditation as was his routine.  Then he sent for Kalyan Swami, his closest disciple and instructed him to come with paper and pen.  In the space of three hours, all 204 of these exquisite verses flowed from him without a single pause.


Following his instructions, Kalyan Swami then dictated the whole collection to ten or fifteen more disciples and asked them to memorize all the verses.  They were to go door to door, village to village and first invoke the Lord, saying ‘ Jai Jai Raghuveer Samarth’. Then they were to sing  in clear melodious tones any one verse at each door. If someone appeared to give food they were to accept whatever was given; if not, they were to move on immediately.  


The effect was electric; people came to their doors even before dawn to listen to the rendering of a verse by one of the Ramdasis; they crowded at windows; mothers left babies to listen; men paused in their chores;  young couples appeared in their courtyard to offer food with glad hearts; children learned the verses and sang along with them. People requested them to come again the next day with more verses!
In the space of a few days, cartloads of  food  poured in and the festival was celebrated in great style  with even more than the usual turnout.     


God bestowed His full grace on Samartha Ramdas because of his absolute surrender to His care in any conditions.  The words shaped by his pen were were those of the Lord Himself who spoke from within his pure soul. Indeed he was an embodiment of God himself as Bhagwan Shree Krishna declares in the Srimad Bhagwad Gita that the saints are are His form on earth. These words have the power to dispel the darkness of ignorance from the minds of ordinary people, transform doubt into faith, create devotion and lift lives out of a mindless worldly existence. They have the grace to point us in the right direction and their relevance is as immediate as it was then.  They inspire the inner will to live life keeping our ultimate spiritual goal in sight. They remind us to strive towards our destination with the only true friend, companion, mother, father and guru we have--Lord Ram Himself.  With His compassion and blessings alone can each of us reach Him.

Before I begin my journey on the path to Lord Rama, the Infinite One.  -1


O Mind, walk the path of devotion.
It is the easiest way to find God.
Shun all that is unworthy, despised by all
Sincerely do all that is good and worthy of you in life.-2

O Mind, think of Lord Rama as soon as you awake at dawn;
Throughout the day, keep His name on your lips
Under no circumstances should you lapse in being righteous
Then you will become worthy of being remembered 
for all time. -3

O Mind, passions and lust are of no use.
Do not allow sinful thoughts within you.
O Mind, never be unethical,
Always be mindful of your true purpose, the essence of this human life- 4


O Mind, shun at once all sinful thoughts
Always abide by those intentions that are good and true.
O Mind, renounce all imagination of sensual pleasure;
All perversions that afflict the mind
And bring sorrow and loss of reputation originate from here. -5


O Mind, do not succumb to anger;
It brings only sorrow in its wake.
O Mind, shun lust which creates perversions in you.
O Mind, never allow jealousy and hypocrisy a hold within you.  -6


O Mind, imbibe within you the quality of patience.
Bear with grace all vile words spoken to you by others.
 Let your own speech be always gentle and humble
At all times be humble and respectful to others. -7


Even after  death you should be remembered with love
O Mind, perform deeds that will ensure this
Like sandalwood, wear out your body in selflessness
leaving only the gentle  fragrance of fame behind
Internally, O Mind, however, preserve your humility.- 8


Never covet the wealth of others.
Extreme selfishness adds to your burden of sins.
That karma is wrong whose result is sin
You will go through great sorrow
Because life turns out very differently 
from your expectations. -9


Hold fast within you absolute love for the Lord.
Do not allow sorrow an entry within ;
Bear with grace all physical suffering as being good for you  Discriminate; you are not the body.
Abide in the Self at all times - 10



Who in this world  has found perfect happiness?
Think,O Mind, show me one person who has.
Whatever you have yourself accumulated
through your past karma,
The effects of those very actions are what 
you have to suffer in this present birth- 11


O Mind, do not give sorrow any access within you;
Never indulge yourself in self-pity and worries.
Think, discriminate--stop identifying with this body ;
Know that you are not this body
Then you will live free from bondage even while in this body -12


O Mind, tell me, what was the fate of Ravana.
In an instant he lost his whole kingdom;
Therefore, shun forthwith any evil cravings that you harbour.
Time always moves forward; Death gets closer every instant
It is at your heels lifelong.-13


You have got human birth due to your karma in this world;
But ultimately you will be swallowed by death.
Even the greatest, most powerful men tread the same path  
Countless are born, only to die again.-14


O Mind, if you think clearly, you can know this-
The only certainty on this earth is death.
Yet while alive, each mortal clamours ‘me, me!’
You live as though you are immortal
Until suddenly you have to leave it all
the instant you die.-15



When one individual dies, the other grieves;
Inevitably, he too is headed the same way.
The accumulated passions and attachments you have cannot be lived out in one lifespan; 
which is why you get birth again in some form. -16


Unnecessarily do men carry around the burden of worry.
What is destined to happen happens anyway-in a flash.
It is one’s own karma of the past life that brings about suffering in the present life;
but the fool, not understanding, keeps lamenting his fate.-17.


O Mind, rest your hopes on none other than the Lord;
Do not sing praises of mere humans in this world.
He who the Vedas and Puranas exalt as the Supreme One,
praise only Him.
Then all this creation of His becomes praiseworthy. -18


O Mind, do not let go of the truth whatever the conditions
Never should you tell a lie.
O Mind, speak only those words that are completely true;
All falsity of any sort, O Mind, shun at once. -19



Time and again you go through this cycle of birth and death
Being in the mother’s womb is intense suffering
Trapped, suffocated, cramped, upside down in the mother’s body, the baby goes through  torture. -20


O Mind, let go of your desires and renounce all craving for wealth and luxury
Only then can you avoid this cycle of birth and death.
O Mind, remember the suffering that awaits you in the womb;
Take me instead on the path that leads to the Lord. - 21


O Mind, do what is beneficial for me
Hold fast to Lord Rama within yourself.
Lord Rama is the master of Hanuman,
Who is the son of Vayu, the Deity of the Wind,
He is the Lord of all the three worlds, the Supreme One
Who can grant salvation to all mankind- 22





O Mind, do not speak of anything other than God
Nothing is to be gained from aimless worldly chatter.
From moment to moment, life is slipping away
Tell me, who will  save you at the end? - 23


Without the Lord, your life is lost exhausting yourself for nothing;
Why indulge in mindless pursuits like others around you?
Every moment, O Mind, let His name abide in you
Do not let the sin of egoism enter within - 24


Do not be slothful; spend every moment  in remembering the Lord
Otherwise how will you forge that bond of love with Him in future?  
All you seek now is pleasure;but pleasure is transient
It is here now, gone the next moment.
Nothing is forever. 25


You strive constantly so that this body may remain alive
Yet you know death will claim your body at the end
O Mind, devote yourself to Lord Rama
All your worldly worries will vanish with time if you do. -26

O cowardly mind, why do you fear these worldly sorrows?
Cast aside your  fear, have courage and faith.
You have the all-powerful Lord as your protector
He will not forget you even if the Lord of Death turns his fury upon you. -27



He is the protector of the helpless, my great Lord who wields the bow.
Even Death trembles at the sight of Him.
O mind, know this to be the eternal truth
The Lord who loves his devotees will never abandon you. -28

His holy feet are famed for His sacred pledge to protect his devotees
The Lord Himself destroys all evil in their path 
with his arrows  
He who took the entire city (of Ayodhya) 
with Him ( to Vaikuntha)
Loves his devotees and will never desert them. -29


Is there anyone in this entire world
Who dares to be the enemy 
of the devotee of the Supreme Lord?  
He whose praise is sung in all the three worlds
Loves his devotees and never lets them down.-30

The Lord who rescued all the Gods
From the prison of Ravana.
Whose bravery and power is unparalleled
Who is venerated by  Lord Shiva (Shoolpani) 
and Goddess Parvati (Shailaja).
Loves his devotees above all 
and always comes to their aid. -31


Ahalya, the wife of Rishi Gautam 
was brought back to life from the curse of being a stone;
By the mere touch of the Lord’s feet she attained divinity
He whose nature even the Vedas are unable to describe
Is proud of his devotees and never turns them away. -32



The Maker of all the Laws of the universe He has created
With whose power countless suns, stars and galaxies exist
Who granted the boon of immortality to both his loyal devotees (Hanuman and  Bhibhishana)
Never abandons his devotees. -33


The Lord never disregards his devotee ever;
Our inability to keep firm faith in Him is the issue;  
The Puranas stand testimony to His promise
To  carry all your burdens for you.
The compassionate Lord never deserts those
who invest their faith in Him -34

In the same measure of your love and faith in Him
Does the Lord manifest within your heart;
Those devotees who surrender
to the Supreme Archer
Are protected by Him eternally -35.
God is always with you at every moment
He compassionately accepts even the little devotion
you offer Him
The ever-generous giver of eternal bliss and salvation
Is proud of his devotees and never disregards them.-36


Just as the rising sun destroys all darkness (and unites the chakravak bird with its lost mate)
So does the Lord leap to the help of his devotee in distress
Devotion to Him will find its mark unfailingly  
Never does the compassionate Lord desert his devotee. -37


O Mind, I beseech and pray to you
Be steadfast in devotion, look only for the Lord in His glory
Never be lax or stray from your faith in Him
O Mind, always abide in the Lord.  -38

He whose glory is sung by the Vedas, 
Shastras and Puranas
Who is the goal of Yoga
Who bestows absolute bliss with His grace
To Him O Mind, surrender all your restlessness.
O good mind of mine,  dwell only in the Lord.  -39


O Mind, focus with love and respect on the one place
Where you will find true peace and happiness
With discrimination, shun petty and false thoughts
Abide constantly in Raghava, O my good  Mind ! -40




O Mind, no happiness can come from your wandering.
You will exhaust yourself yet be as unhappy as ever.
Turn inwards and examine this truth for yourself.
My good Mind, rest at the feet of the Lord. -41



Having said this many times, hold on to just this;
Make the Lord of the Raghus your own.
He who is famed as the friend of the friendless,
O my good Mind, abide in Him. 42


My good Mind, integrate this carefully.
Only you have the ability to do what is good for you.
Do not  dwell on anything other than the Lord.
Let this be your inner pledge always.- 43


O Mind, be quiet amidst people.
Listen to the stories glorifying Lord Rama with respect.
Leave that place, avoid those whose hearts have no
place for Him
You are better off in the solitude of a forest. 44


O Mind people whose company which causes you
to lose your peace of mind
And instantly worsens your own egoism
Can there be any good in being around people
Who cause your mind to desert God? -45


O Mind, each moment that you waste without Lord Rama
You have done yourself harm.
Without Him you are weak and lost.
The observant one can see this for himself. -46



O Mind, have eyes only for Shri Hari
The Knower among men remains free within himself
He respects good qualities and imbibes them
And is steadfast in his spiritual practise
Such a man is a worthy devotee of the Supreme Lord. -47
 

The man who wears out his body in service to God
On whose lips the name of the Lord abides at all times
Who wholeheartedly fulfills the duties 
According to his station in life
That man is truly a worthy devotee of the Lord. -48


That man who always lives by his words
And sees God in all beings
Who worships God with form without doubt or confusion
Such a servant of the Lord is worthy indeed. -49


The man within whom lust and perversions do not exist
Who is free from attachment, faithful in purpose
Whose mind is tranquil with not a trace left of evil
Such a devotee of the Lord achieves glory on this earth. -50


He who has conquered pride and jealousy
Has renounced all selfishness  and worldly cravings
Whose speech is humble and always gentle
That man is a worthy devotee of the Supreme One. 51

The man who spends his time in understanding spiritual truths
Yet is careful not to indulge in discussions to prove a point 
and unwittingly become a hypocrite 
( because egoism leads to discussion!)
Who always speaks gently and of a higher purpose
Is truly a worthy devotee of the Lord. -52


The man who is liked by all for his quality of humility
Who is truthful and kind due to his ability to discriminate
The one who never speaks a falsehood
Such a person is a worthy devotee of the Supreme Lord. - 53


The man willing to endure worldly hardships 
for spiritual goals
Who does not chase worldly fantasies
Whose mental determination and resolve are firm
Such a devotee is a worthy servant of the Lord. -54



A man who does not harbour evil 
and unworthy cravings within
Whose mind is full of love for all
To whom even God is indebted for his devotion
Such a person is a worthy devotee of the Supreme Lord. - 55
 

The man who is compassionate, kindhearted
and merciful by nature;
Who tries to alleviate the suffering of others
How can anger or conflict exist within him?
Such a devotee is a worthy servant of the Lord. -56


Attain glory in this world with the Rama nama
The essence is to attain the spiritual purpose of life
In your work, devotion and spiritual practice
Remain indifferent to both happiness and sorrow
Then your inner self will forever be free.-57


O Mind, do not run after the objects of the senses
These worldly cravings arise due to our past sins.
Worship the Lord without any desire whatsoever
Do not allow even a shred of craven fantasy to exist within -58


O Mind, in the millions of thoughts you generate
Never ever can the path to the Lord be found
In a mind full of craving for worldly pleasures
With all respect I say--in such a mind
There can be no love for the Lord -59.


Dwell in the Lord, O Mind, 
 He is the Kalpataru, the wish-yielding tree,
the Kamadhenu, the celestial cow who fulfils all wishes
He is the treasure of all treasures,
the Chintamani jewel that fulfills all intentions
He is the power behind this entire universe
What can be compared to Him, the Unparalleled One. -60


You are standing under the wish-yielding tree
Yet if you insist on carrying your burden of  sorrows
Then sorrow is all you will ever have (without surrender)
Amidst people, if you indulge your tendency to argue
You are simply creating sorrow for yourself in the future. 61


This destroys your understanding of your true self
Agitation and and discord take root within you.
Peace and tranquility will be drowned
In the egoistic perception of separateness from others
You will become negative and lose all your belief and faith. - 62


Like the man who has the Kamdhenu, (the wish-yielding cow) at home and begs for butter-milk from others
Or asks the owner of the Chintamani jewel for pieces of glass
Such is the person who instead of aspiring
for salvation from the ever-generous Lord
Throws away his life in futile egoism and arguments .-63


 The utterly foolish person has no firmness of purpose
In the lustful man’s heart there is no place for God
He whose greed is extreme remains constantly agitated
And the body-conscious man who craves worldly pleasures  Remains a permanent beggar trapped in his own mind. -64


 Such an existence devoid of devotion
is pathetic and worthless
The fool who pursues worldly happiness 
redoubles his sorrows all his life.
Therefore O Mind!
Do not pursue fantasies of golden palaces
With absolute love abide only at the feet of the Lord. -65.

This world is not real; it is an illusion of terrible sorrow.
O Mind, God is only truth, search for Him
After consuming the poison of this sansara,how can you expect  happiness in the future?
Abide in the Lord, O Mind and you will find peace. 66



The dark-complexioned Lord 
who is the embodiment of beauty
The All-Powerful One, 
the abode of peace and supreme generosity
Unfailingly protects his devotees in distress.
Meditate on Him in your heart 
as soon as you awake every morning. 67


The All-powerful Lord with the bow in hand
Even Death trembles at the mere sight of Him,
What then can be said of mere mortals?
Adore Him in your heart as you awake every day..- 68

Lord Ram is the abode of Supreme Bliss,
The Destroyer of all fear.
Worship Him with love and devotion
Discriminate for yourself
Shun the sinfulness and jealousy within you
Meditate on the Lord every morning, O mind -69


The devoted man on whose lips
The name of the Lord always abides
Can never be troubled by sorrow;
Get rid of your egoism and slothfulness
Think of the Lord as soon as you awake. -70



He whose name destroys even the most evil qualities within
That lifts man out of sorrow and takes him to salvation
The name which accrues immense good karma simply by saying it
Remember the great Lord as soon as you awake.  71



You cannot easily understand the scriptures
But saying the Lord’s name is not difficult 
and requires nothing
Merely by saying His name 
you will conquer this world of terrible sorrows
Meditate first on the Lord's name when you awake. 72


Penance requires you to endure great hardships
Just by saying His name all sorrows are destroyed
Lord Shiva, the yogi of yogis eternally chants the Ramanama
O Mind, so should you too meditate
On the name of the Lord when you awake. 73



There are many obstacles in the path of realisation of God.
Charity, fasts and rituals require wealth  
Think of the compassionate Lord, the protector of the afflicted.
You only need love to think of Him
From the moment you arise in the morning.  74


The essence of all this advice is to chant the Nama
Find out for yourself from the scriptures if you do not understand why
Cast aside your useless tendency to doubt
Think of Him as you awake in the morning.


In this Kaliyuga, neither action, rituals, yoga nor penance
Is done as prescribed by the shastras
The only way to salvation is the name of the Lord
Be steadfast in your belief in His power
And think of Him as soon as you awake in the morning. 76


Remembering Lord Rama will free you
from worldly attachments
And reveal to you the Self who abides in all living beings
Once His name becomes your constant consciousness
You will go beyond the duality of this world
(  ie. happiness-sorrow, pleasure-pain)
Believe in HIm firmly, be steadfast in singing His name. 77

The man who lacking faith, does not believe in the Lord
Keeps getting trapped in adverse circumstances all his life
The King of Kings, the giver of immense treasure
In the form of salvation is here with you
Why would you senselessly hold on
To body-consciousness and worldly worries?. 78


O Mind, love for the Lord is the purest feeling
Be steadfast in your love and quit all worries of this world
All the visible world is an illusion which misleads you;
You chase the unreal and waste 
your entire life in the process -79


Hold fast within you to the Lord of Lakshmi
who is the object of Lord Shiva’s meditation
You will be taken safely across
this terrible ocean of worldly sorrow
Step back from your relentless efforts
to fill that bottomless pit of your belly
Think ! Look within you and destroy your inner demons
Of doubt and suspicion with your own self-will. -80


O Mind, do not give up the name of the Lord 
under the influence of doubts which your ego spins
With deep respect make the Naam your purpose 
And understand the nature of your Self.
The Name of God is the essence of your spiritual goal
Nothing else can compare to it. -81


None among names can compare 
to the name of Lord Rama
But the unfortunate and unwise fail to understand this
Lord Shiva chanted the Rama nama as a remedy against the poison (halahal) in his throat
Who are we ordinary mortals to have a contrary opinion?-82


He who burned all desire (in the form of Kamadeva) meditates on Lord Rama
And sings His glory to Goddess Parvati (Uma)
with love and respect
Lord Shiva, the supreme Yogi who possesses
absolute Knowledge, Dispassion and Power
Has complete belief in the name of Lord Rama. -83


Lord Vitthal (another name of Lord Vishnu) bears Lord Shiva lovingly on His head.
Because Shiva Himself constantly meditates on His name
With this meditation you become one with the Self
The Lord Himself frees you from the bondage
of birth and death at the end. -84

Glorify the name of Lord Rama 
who is the refuge of the King of Yogis, Shiva Himself
Both Lord Shiva (Hara) and Goddess Gauri always meditate on Him
The Ramanama soothed the burning in Lord Shiva’s  throat due to the poison (halahal)
If you remember the Lord with love He will free you at the end. - 85





He who has the name of the Lord constantly on his lips
Is always in a state of abiding bliss
Everything else merely exhausts you and increases doubt
The abode of eternal peace and the destroyer of all sorrows is the name of the Lord. -86



The man who remembers Lord Rama 
cannot be troubled by lust
With the Nama he imbibes all virtues
and acquires great patience
The devotee gains tremendous strength 
from the Lord and conquers carnal desires
Just like the celibate Lord Hanuman (Maruti) has done
and gained glory thereby -87



The name of Lord Rama is wonderful.
It is sweet, easy to say and free for all
It destroys all attachment to the world from the root
It takes man to the experience of absolute bliss.  -88



Remember Lord Rama while you are around others,
while eating,
Acknowledge Him with love and respect
in the food you eat
You will easily attain Him when you see Him in everything. -89


The man to whose mind 
the name of the Lord does not appeal
Does himself great harm
He has wasted his birth as a human
The Lord’s name is exalted 
by the  Vedas, Shastras and Puranas
Maharishi Vyas proclaims it
the best way to attain the Self  -90


O Mind, do not be indolent 
in chanting the name of the scion of the Raghus
Respectfully take the name of the Lord.
It takes no great effort and costs you nothing
Glorify always the beloved Lord of Janaki (Goddess Sita). 91



He who remembers Rama with full devotion
All impurities are instantly driven out of his mind
Lord Rama Himself  then abides within your heart
He abides in total contentment where He is remembered.
Just as he abides in Lord Shiva
Who is absorbed eternally in Him -92



The Lord is the provider of this entire world
He takes on all the responsibility for you
Then tell me O Mind, what does it cost you
To say His name with gratitude? -93


Lord Shiva has the power
to reduce all the three worlds to ashes
if He is roused to anger
He finds peace in meditating on the name of  Lord Rama. Goddess Parvati, the Mother of all creation
also chants the  Ramanama with great respect
That is why you too should say the name of the Lord.

Ajamel the sinner was freed from sansara
Even though he took the Lord’s name
Out of attachment to his son who was called Ram
The parrot belonging to a prostitute was called Ram
The Rama nama was on her lips thereby
And she became famous in the Puranas
For just saying the Lord’s name saved her from bondage. 95


Prahlad, though born to a demon 
was a great devotee of Lord Rama
He constantly chanted the Rama nama
His father, an embodiment of sin, could not bear this
The demon could never bring himself
to say the name of God. -96


How can there be salvation for him
On whose lips the name of the Lord never comes
Due to egoism  he goes through trouble for nothing  
His end is pathetic and undignified
That is why I implore you, chant the Rama nama always.-97



The name of the Lord written on rocks
Had the power to make them float in the sea.
Countless are the humans 
whom He has freed from bondage
Yet if a man persists in doubt 
and does not say say His name
He is verily an embodiment of sin. -98


Glory be to the holy city of Varanasi
A man who lives in purity and dies there
Is freed from bondage of birth and death
Along with all his ancestors.
This is because the Rama nama
is chanted there day and night
Lord Shiva Himself started this tradition
He glorifies the power of the Lord’s name always.  99



In the Kali yuga karmas are not done as per the shastras
The karmas done acquire no merit consequently
As their origin is in worldly desire;
Man cannot see God in all sentient beings
He is unable even to say the name of the Lord
Though it is free and requires no effort. -100


He who is averse to the name of the Lord
Suffers intensely at the hands of Yama, the God of Death
He who argues with warped logic and persists in doubt
About the power of the Rama Nama
The suffering of Hell awaits him through life and death.
O Mind, therefore, say the Lord’s name with utmost respect
All your evil tendencies will be destroyed  thereby. -101



Imbibe humility towards all in yourself
By your conduct give contentment to all good people
Use your body in the service of humanity
With absolute respect worship the Supreme Self
in his form as Lord Ram. 102


Listen with love to the stories and songs of the Lord
Your body-consciousness will vanish thereby
Never  covet another’s wealth or wife
Otherwise all that you have earned in spiritual wealth is lost. 103


If all your goodness is just for show; all talk and no action
You will internally be full of agitation
and come to grief eventually
O Mind, when imagination overpowers you and runs wild
How can such a man ever find God?. 104


Discriminate for yourself and change your own behaviour
Act on the rules enjoined in the shastras with firm belief
And thus make your actions pure
As you speak, so you should do in life,
Do not give in to fearful imagination of worldly worries. 105


Do your daily devotional rituals with deep commitment
Use your discrimination and shun evil in any form
That man who has compassion towards all living beings
Will be filled with devotion, love and peace. 106

O Mind do not succumb to accusations in anger and desire. Keep the company only of saints and good people
Avoid  the wicked, the evil and materialistic
Then O Mind, you will be worthy of Salvation. 107


O Mind! In the company of saints has the power
To transform you from within and create deep devotion
Mere lip-service without the action to back it is futile
Speak only words that dispel doubt and bring peace; 
they alone are beneficial. 108


O Mind ! Walk away from futile debates and arguments
Participate only in conversation 
which brings peace to others
Such words alone can dissolve sorrow and worry
Speech that dispels ambiguity is the only worthy speech. 109


Those words alone which end conflict should be spoken
With your power of discrimination conquer your own ego
It is egoism that breeds arguments 
and increases our evil tendencies
Only those words which defuse arguments are of value. 110


O Mind, for your own good, it is necessary 
to tell you the truth
For your own good, investigate everything for yourself
For your own good, do cling to your skepticism 
and disbelief in God without due inquiry
Only that speech is good which clears all doubts. 111

Many were the saints who spent their entire lives
entreating people to pray to God
Many were those who spent lifetimes listening to them
Yet conflict and doubt are still just as before
Doubts give rise to arguments, it is duplicity in disguise
Only those words are worthy which dispel all doubt. -112



Mere intellectual argument led
many learned pundits to self-destruction
Their egoism caused them to be trapped
in the spirit world after death
Was there anyone as learned as them?
O Mind, shed all awareness, everything that you know; 
just BE. 113


What is the use of simply spouting theoretical knowledge?
Your ego will grow bigger day after day
There is no point in talking
without implementation in life
Think about this fact and examine it for yourself. 114


Speak only where you can end arguments
Introspect and conquer your own egoism
First do yourself what you wish others to do.
Your own transformation is the key to the path of devotion. 115

Sage Durvasa’s curse caused great suffering 
for King Ambarish, who was a great devotee
Lord Rama Himself took human birth to save him
Upamanyu was given the Ocean of Milk
The Lord never disappoints his devotees. 116



The little Dhruva undertook penance on being humiliated
The Lord immediately appeared and fulfilled his wish
He lovingly granted him an eternal place as the North Star The Lord is proud of His devotees and never neglects them. -117


The elephant king Gajendra in great distress
Beseeched the Lord to save him 
from the grip of the crocodile; 
The Lord flew to his aid at once and saved his life
Never has the Lord spurned his devotees. 118


The sinner Ajamela called out ‘Rama’ on his death-bed
(he called to his son who was named Rama)
Yet the ever-compassionate Lord gave him salvation
The support of the helpless 
is the Lord who holds the Chakra
He loves his devotees and never disregards them. -119


To protect the earth he took the form of a fish,
And  became a tortoise to support the earth on His back
To save humanity He accepts birth
even as lower forms of life. 
But never has He let down His devotees. -120



Seeing that His great devotee Prahlad was being tormented
The Lord took the form of Narsimha
( half man-half lion) for his sake
None dared to come near Him in this terrifying form
The Lord is proud of His devotees 
and never abandons them. . 121


When Indra prayed for His help to rescue Heaven from Bali, the Lord assumed the form of a dwarf Waman
To save the brahmins from being killed
He descended to earth as Parshurama
Never has the Lord abandoned his devotees. 122

Lord Rama set free Ahilya who had turned into a rock
due to her husband’s curse
The Gods sing  His praises in all three worlds
Because  He freed them from the prison of Ravana
Lord Ram who adores his devotees never disregards their pleas. 123

The Lord rushed to Draupadi’s aid 
leaving aside everything else
In the Kali yuga He has become the Buddha
to show people the path of righteousness.
The Lord loves his devotees and never spurns them.  124


The Lord accepts birth on this earth
for the protection of the afflicted and helpless
He will manifest again as Kalki
He whose glory even the Vedas are unable to describe
Never abandons His devotees. -125


Many are the miracles the Lord works
Many are the forms He assumes to help His devotees
Those who do not acknowledge Him are unfortunate sinners and those who themselves the embodiment of evil. 126


He alone is worthy who loses himself 
in the pure Bliss of the Lord
Whose mind is absorbed 
in listening to the stories of the Lord 
His body-consciousness vanishes  
as he understands his own true nature
All the desires of his mind merge into the form of the Lord. 127

O MInd,  let your desire be only to attain the Lord Vasudeva
Do not associate yourself with lust, O Mind
Do not allow futile imagination to run wild within you
O good mind, associate only with those who are pure. 128


The company you keep defines your path
O Mind, keep the company of saints
They transform the minds of even wicked people;
The man who lives for carnal pleasures is lost forever
Therefore O mind, go beyond yourself to seek your goal. -129



O Mind, do not allow even the smallest 
Of worldly thoughts within
( it expands quickly and goes out of control)
Dwell only on the Truth
Shun idle and negative gossip amidst people
In solitude offer your devotion only to the divine within 130

Adore only the Supreme One in the form of Rama
He holds a single arrow and makes a single promise
Hold His deeds as your own ideal and salvation is yours
Make the Lord of Janaki your conscience
and keep Him in your heart. -131


Think before you speak, consider carefully before you act
Even agitated people become peaceful
around such a person
Never speak before you think through things
Be balanced and fair in your conduct with others. 132


O Mind ! A man in whom true knowledge,
devotion and dispassion abide
Has established himself in his true nature
Just being in his presence
Is enough to purify and bless all
His words dispel all doubt from within. 133

The one who has no egoism; 
who is devoid of any craving for worldly things;
Whose heart is full of peace and forgiveness
And knows not greed or discontent;
He bears the attributes of a true yogi. 134


O Mind, keep the company of the pure-hearted and saintly
Even evil people are transformed by their energy
When you are thus purified you will find the true path
No longer will death have the power to invoke fear in you. 135




All creatures in the universe feel fear
(due to the duality of nature-good and evil).
But the saints see the Truth beyond this duality
Knowing the Truth all duality ceases to be
And no fear can ever gain entry within. 136

In every age the great and realized souls have
Very clearly told people about the Truth;
Yet people remain as ignorant as ever.
Unable to rise above the consciousness of the body
They persist in folly and cannot know their real Self
They remain trapped due to their personal ego. 137


Deluded, man identifies himself with his body
And his real Self is obscured thereby
All his life he lives in poverty of the spirit
Unable to know his own Self due to his egoism. 138



God permeates the entire universe;
He is everywhere
Yet the unfortunate fool sees only a stone idol
There can be no good karma 
for an impoverished mind that lacks the treasure of faith
Man is incapable of knowing God simply because of ego. 139


We miss the Divine One though He is all around us
Because our mental drives cannot free themselves
from the three tendencies or gunas
Our mental drives bind the ego and the body
Egoism precludes all understanding of our true nature.-140
 

In order to be free of the bondage of this world
Surrender to the Self-Realized preceptor
Serve him and stay at his feet with total devotion
He alone can apply the kohl of knowledge
In your eyes and grant you that divine sight
Lacking this you cannot know God due to your egoism. 141


You cannot, will not understand; you are unable  to grasp
You are unable to dispel doubt, 
your tendency to doubt is tenacious
You are unable,  nay, incapable of renouncing your ego
Brute force of will does not work
It is beyond your power to do and you attain nothing. 142

In his ignorance man cannot understand
He is deluded into identifying himself with his body
He ties a fake coin tightly to his waist without examining it
So too he accepts the delusion without knowing 
what is true and what is not.  143



Find out for yourself-what is the truth?
Thus while  seeking the truth earnestly
All your ignorance and delusions will clear
And you will find devotion and know God thereby. 144


O Mind ! Constantly chasing worldly objects
wraps the soul in layers of egoism and ignorance
You will trap yourself in endless births and deaths
Discriminate, O Mind, think what your true nature is
Free yourself from this cycle of suffering. 145

All that you see before you 
is impermanent; it is not the truth. 
All this world with form will be destroyed in time
All that exists now will be gone in the future
O Mind! Seek the Eternal, the Infinite; the Truth which is beyond ordinary perception. 146

The Supreme Spirit, immutable, indestructible, changeless Pervades the entire universe
It cannot be perceived while personal ego persists
No duality can endure in the experience of God
O MInd, seek that eternal Truth for yourself. 147



That formless Supreme Spirit which is the support for Lord Brahma and other Gods
Cannot be comprehended even by the Vedas
Discriminate O Mind, become one with Him
Seek for yourself that eternal Bliss. 148


That which cannot be seen with the eyes in this world
But only known through the eyes of knowledge
Once that Truth is seen, the very duality of seeing vanishes  . O Mind, seek that Supreme Self. 149


No description of yellow,white or dark applies to Him
Nor can the words formless or with form encompass Him
Only with absolute faith in the words of the Guru
O Mind, can you hope to find the Bliss Supreme. 150


If you keep searching for the Truth, one day you will find it
If you persist in your efforts to understand, 
one day you will know
This can only be done in the company of holy men
O Mind, with determination and love you will succeed.
151

There are many learned people
who have great intellectual skill
But the Truth can only be known from inner experience
O Mind, the knowledge of the Essence
is different from everything else
It is the only knowledge that matters;
it is superior to all else -152



That singular and lasting peace within
Cannot be obtained by the study 
of the human body, nor philosophy nor arts nor music
No yoga, performance of yagnas
Nor the renunciation of sense objects
Can bring about the tranquility of mind
Which comes of itself  in the company of saints. 153


The great statements of the Vedas,
the essence of the scriptures
Hearing these from the lips of a Realized soul
Will steer you in the right direction
The one who has seen the new moon (the Sadguru)
Can guide you using visual clues ( pointing to the  branches behind which it is hidden- meaning the Vedic statements about the nature of the Self)
Once you see the moon yourself it
you will only have eyes for its beauty;
the clues are not needed any more . 154

Search, O Mind, for that Self that is hidden from you
There lies the secret; meditate on Him 
and you will perceive signs of His presence in everything
He pervades this whole universe;
yet He is beyond sensual perception.
You cannot reach out and touch Him. 155

He who says that he knows God is a fool
Who in this world can apply logic
To the One who is beyond all logic
Where there is personal ego nothing can be known of God
And the moment one knows Him
No separateness of identity can remain at all. 156


Too many shastras that you study will hamper you
Their contrary elements will lead to inner conflict
Intellectual arguments are an obstacle to real understanding
Even the one conviction you have 
will be undermined thereby.
157


The Shrutis, Nyaya, Mimansas, Shastras, Smrutis, Vedas  With all their wise words are very complex
But  even the great Shesha with his thousand tongues can only be silent, unable to describe the Lord
O Mind, simply  let go of all thought and awareness; then see. -158



If a man swallows a fly (of egoism)  in his food
Can he relish any of the food thereafter?
He who cannot let go of the egoism of being knowledgeable
Cannot digest (the food of) real Knowledge. 159
O Mind, do not indulge in arguments, 
they only create conflict
Do not get into hair-splitting; it distorts perception
Do not preach to others O Mind
Until your egoism remains with you.  160


All sorrow arises due to egoism  
The knowledge that is spoken 
with the pride of being knowledgeable is all wasted;
Shed all vanity, you will find peace thereby
You alone can know the extent
of your own egocentricity;
Be watchful for signs of your ego appearing. 161


Egoism makes even a discriminating man unethical
He may earn a name and fame among people
But his mind is an uneasy witness to his actions
He twists even scripture for his own purpose
In his egoism his intellect deserts him. 162

Egoism and body-consciousness
become a hardened attitude
Thus a man loses out on what is truly
in his interest beyond this material world
Transform your body-consciousness to soul consciousness
Always keep the company of those who are good. 163


O Mind, free yourself from the these worldly fantasies
Only then will you understand the all-pervading Self
Use your own ability to rid yourself of all imagination
To achieve this, abide in  the company of the pure of heart. 164

With constant thoughts of body and worldly objects
Greed and attachment will make a firm abode within you
Dwell only in God and make  Salvation your beloved
Keep the company of those who are holy and revered. 165


Your egoistic concern about yourself
Expands to include attachment
to wife, children and relatives.
Exert every effort to free yourself of these thoughts
Which push you back into the bondage of birth and death
Constantly keep the company of saintly souls. 166

Resolve firmly to dwell only in the Eternal
Says this servant of God
Forget your uncertainty and doubt
Put every moment of your life to good use
Always stay with those who are godly and pure . 167


Recognize him as a saint who has attained stillness within
Who is untouched by the poverty of expectation from others
Hoarding worldly things increases body-consciousness
But how can a truly godly person be affected
by such things?
168

Take refuge at the feet of a Realised soul
to help you know that Eternal Self
Wind up that inflated ego; snuff it out
Abide only in Him who is the Supreme Consciousness
Annihilate even the memory of body-consciousness. 169

With the light of true knowledge, shed body-consciousness
With discrimination, you will know the Self
The drives of the mind are not inclined to remain still
Therefore inner stillness is what you must always seek. 170


The Supreme Truth is hidden
With these eyes only the visual world can be seen
The formless, the Infinite Self cannot be comprehended
And egoism prevents the perception of Oneness with God.
. 171

Imagination of worldly objects is ignorance
While thoughts of the Creator constitute knowledge
Both constitute Maya
But one hurls you into the bondage of birth and death
The other releases you from it.
With discrimination absorb yourself in the contemplation of God; thereby Maya merges into the Supreme Self with Knowledge.  172


The Supreme Truth is veiled from you
Due to the ego within you that perceives separateness
Looking outwards only increases the darkness of ignorance
O Mind! Think carefully and discriminate what is Real. 173



That Self which is beyond the perception of the senses
Knowing whom this visible universe vanishes forever
He bestows on the true devotee freedom
from the shackles of birth and death
He is the compassionate Witness 
who safeguards you always.  .- 174


Lord Brahma writes the destiny of each being 
on their forehead
But who writes the destiny of Lord Brahma on His forehead?
Hara (Shiva) destroys everything at the end of the universe  
But who then destroys Lord Shiva? -175


In this universe there are twelve Adityas and eleven Rudras
Who can count the innumerable gods ?
The Self cannot be found by searching in this world
We know not who the Supreme Spirit is in all this universe.  176

Beyond time, Indestructible;
Immutable Unchanging, Undiminishing
He is eternal, the Supreme One
Beyond comprehension, unseen by the eyes
And where egoism exists He cannot be perceived at all. 177

People worship God in one form or another
Nobody however tries to find the Truth for themselves
There are millions of Gods who are the object of worship
And each man believes his way of devotion is the best. 178

The Power that has created all the three worlds
He is the Supreme Lord
He is the Almighty One who is hidden from us
Whom nobody really strives to seek or know
He cannot be found without taking refuge at the feet of the preceptor. 179


Countless  are those who call themselves preceptors
They have studied many mantras and are powerful
They are full of desires, they crave fame and power
They practice their skill to control by fear
Such people are worthless and cannot take anyone to salvation. 180

Do not follow those who know spells,
nor those who deceive  in their greed for money
Nor to the jealous ones who criticize others
Nor to those addicts devoid of devotion   
Who ruin their followers as well
None of them is of any worth
The true Knower and saint is pure in all aspects   
He sees God in everyone and is compassionate to all
He is the only worthy teacher. 181

The man of unrestrained speech
who harbours lust within
Who is all words and no action
Such a man is useless
He who walks the path that he teaches
O Mind, search for such a sadguru. 182


Search for a teacher who is full of devotion, 
knowledge and dispassion
Who has conquered his mind
yet is compassionate and generous
Who is a yogi of exalted intelligence and power
Having himself reached the highest state
He is kind and forgiving, an adept teacher
Only such a preceptor can bring about a real resolution within. 183

That which is is not there is what you see
This visible world is an illusion that you think is real
He who is beyond description, the Supreme Self full of Bliss
The saints speak of Him so that you can seek Him
O Mind, search for that Blissful Self within you. -184



Lose yourself in utter devotion in the form of Lord Ram
Abide beyond all fear and worry of this world in Him
He is not perceived by these eyes
He is the only One; where He abides, there can be no duality of your separateness from Him  -185


The Lord is always with you, near you at all times
O good Mind of mine, see the truth of this for yourself
You can be one with Him forever;
Simply cast off that ego of yours 
which separates you from Him. -186


The visible universe with all this life 
is one with the five elements of the body
But the Supreme Self is apart from all of this
O Mind; while you see with the eyes and perceive all of this  Detach yourself from the inside and abide in the Self.  187

O Mind, sever your body-consciousness 
with the sword of Knowledge
Free of all illusory connections follow the path of devotion
Detach from the world and shun everything
That is worthy of condemnation
Unencumbered just abide in blissful solitude
within yourself. 188


Recognize that Supreme Lord
 who has created all nature
Once you percieve Him 
you are instantly free from bondage
Know that  though He is formless,
He assumes innumerable forms
Free yourself from all concepts 
of form and formlessness;
Then you will know total bliss within. -189

The Supreme Lord is above Brahma the creator
And beyond the preserver of creation Lord Vishnu
The Supreme Self is beyond the ‘para’ speech
He who is beyond Maya, dwell on Him
The Formless, Infinite One
When the awareness of yourself as mediator dissolves
You will attain to Bliss. 190


He who cannot get past his identification with the body
Will never understand the Truth even at the end of time
Where egoism is present
the Supreme Spirit cannot be known
The ignorance of the mind cannot lessen,  it is null and void. 191



Beyond conscious understanding of the mind
The Unparalled One precludes all comparison
He is like nothing else,
The examples of this world do not apply to Him
He is beyond all concepts of duality and non-duality.
(They originate in our imagination, only concepts; non-duality assumes the existence of duality). 192


The Supreme One is not known, yet His presence does not remain unknown
He defies description by even the Vedas and Puranas
He who is unseen by the eyes permeates the entire universe
He cannot be said to be a Witness, for witnessing is a modification of the mind
Even the Vedas can describe Him only in the words ‘ Neither this, nor that.’ 193



Where does God abide within us?
Humbly asks a devotee
Where does God will go when this body dies?
Does He move elsewhere then? 194


God, like space, is all around, He permeates everything
He neither comes from anywhere nor goes anywhere
He is unchanged, always there
There is nowhere in this universe where He is not.-195



He is in every atom of space
There is no place where my Lord is not;
In seeking Him, the seeker becomes one with Him
The journey, the traveller and the goal dissolve into Him. 196

Meditating on this aspect of Lord Rama
Who is all-pervading like the sky
All our ignorant worldliness is destroyed from the root
No more can your consciousness remain
Merely at the level of the body
The  longing for Him becomes so intense
That your being cannot contain it. -197

The sky(space) pervades everything in the universe
Yet it cannot describe my Lord;
He who is beyond all duality, the Incomparable One
For whom no parallel exists, He is the Spirit
The only Truth, there is nothing other than Him in existence. 198

For all eternity the Infinite One has been there
He is beyond all logic or understanding in words
The impenetrable mystery of God
Can be  known in an instant by the grace of the Sadguru
Who takes us beyond all duality. 199

This knowledge and understanding of God dawns within
The duality of being a witness itself dissolves
The mind merges into the Supreme Consciousness
Speech lapses into Divine Silence
Everywhere, everything, all the universe is only God. -200

(Knowing the Truth) Now there is no relevance of 'I' and 'You'. There is no duality left
The knower of the Truth and the Truth itself are One
Like one who returns home after ages, you meet
In the Bliss beyond the consciousness of this body. 201






O Mind!  The secret of the richest spiritual treasure has been revealed to you
Yet to attain it you have to make the effort from within
The company of the saints destroys all body consciousness and sorrows in this material world
You will attain the highest goal without doubt
If you consistently keep their company. 202

O Mind ! Detach yourself from others
With reverence, walk in the company of saints
The greatest of your sorrows will vanish without a trace
You will find the right path without any strife. -203


O Mind ! The company of saints snaps the bonds of worldly ignorance
My Mind, being with the saints grants you salvation
With their grace the  seeker is set free from bondage
All duality vanishes without a trace in their presence -204


Listening to these verses will remove all evil of the mind
Even those of dull intellect will become capable of spiritual aspiration
Knowledge, dispassion and worthiness will be assimilated
And with full faith in these words, you will experience moksha.- 205  



He who feels only the overpowering longing to be free
All the drives of his mind remain at the feet of his Guru
He whose purpose is to merge with Him should 
find his own Divine nature
Become the Light himself which is his real Self ;
Having shown the path to your mind 
Always imbibe in yourself unfailing and devoted service
to the Guru;
The Lord loves above all the devotee who sweeps and cleans at his Guru's home
Who makes no distinction between himself and others
I have guided you, listen with utmost attention.

Wind up all the running around and stay still
All three times of the day, abide at the Guru's feet within
Without going hither and thither
Whether it is to Kashi or Gaya
Do not go anywhere but to the place wthin yourself
Which is the abode of your Guru.
Then being graced with Knowledge you will know the Truth
Where the silent Witness of all the universe dwells;
O Mind, this is the state of devotion beyond the mind, where words cannot be
Where you yourself will know that all the universe is God
Where you yourself will know that all the universe is God
Where you yourself will know that all the universe is God.
